NEWS | Dubai’s new international airport awaits anchor airline

Dubai’s new international airport - Dubai World Central - will be ready for occupation in 2012 although passenger operations won’t start until an anchor airline signs on the dotted line. Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai World Central Al Maktoum International, said negotiations were taking place with several airlines but until a significant commitment was received,
resources would not be moved to the new terminal. "We don’t want to have a terminal that doesn’t have any business," he said, according to a TravelMole.com report. Separately, Dubai International’s Concourse 3 - the world’s first purpose-built A380 facility - is expected to be completed by the end of the year and will open to the public in the first quarter of 2013. It will increase the airport’s capacity to 62 million passengers from the current 51 million.
