According to a report in the Deccan Chronicle, the Telangana agitation is having an adverse impact on tourism sector in Visakhapatnam district. The District tourism has lost approximately 10 per cent of revenue due to frequent protests and other disturbances.
Visakhapatnam is the best tourism destination in Andhra Pradesh. The district has many tourism spots that represent the culture and heritage of India. Visakhapatnam also has some of the best and the safest beaches in the south coast line of the country. But, because of the demand for a separate state of Telangana, footfalls have dropped in the tourism sector.
Tourists from Hyderabad and other Telangana districts have stopped coming due to protests, according to sources. “It is true that by and large 10 per cent of tourists from Telangana districts, especially from Hyderabad, visit the district every year. But, they stopped coming as travel facilities are hit owing to local problems,” said G Dasu, assistant tourism officer, Andhra Pradesh.
