Goa Kayaking, in association with Goa Tourism and Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC), will conduct a moonlight kayaking programme from April 24-28, 2013. It will start from Cortalim Ferry Jetty and end at San Jacinto Island in approximately two hours starting at 9 pm. Goa Kayaking is the only club in India to offer moonlight kayaking, a release stated. Nilesh Cabral, Chairman, GTDC, said, “Moonlight kayaking on the Zuari is a very special activity and we encourage everyone to participate in it and experience the joy and the serenity that it offers."

The Goa government has decided to introduce green concept in all its forthcoming projects to preserve the coastal state's scenic beauty, State Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar said today. "For last 8-9 months we have been trying to introduce green concepts in our projects. We will continue doing that in our future projects," Parulekar told a conference organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in Goa today on 'Riding the Next Wave of Green Practices'. The minister said that "green toilets" would be constructed by the ministry in tourist spots.

The Government of Goa is thinking of developing closed mining pits for tourism activities. The draft ‘Goa Mining Policy 2012’ announced by Manohar Parrikar, Chief Minister, Government of Goa, on August 8, 2012 proposed that tourism be developed in mines that have shut down after excavation of minerals.

Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar today said the state plans to increase tourist inflow from 2.6 million to 6 million in five years and promote it as a destination which has more than just 'beaches and pubs'. Encouraged by the increasing number of tourists to Goa from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Iran, the tourism department has decided to participate in the 2012 Arabian Travel Mart to tap potential tourists to the state.

Kingfisher Airlines launched its direct flight service on the virgin air route of Pune-Goa from July 1. This is for the first time that both the destinations would be connected directly via air.





The flights will operate six days a week except on Saturdays, an official release said.
The flights between Pune and Goa are being operated as Kingfisher Red service which is an unique class of low fare flying. It offers guests a whole host of benefits besides the trademark Kingfisher service at low fares, the release adds.
The flights are conveniently timed with the flight, IT 2801 departing from Pune at 12 noon and arriving in Goa at 1:15 pm.
The return flight, IT 2802 will take off from Goa at 1:45 pm and reach Pune at 3 pm and then fly onwards to Indore and arrive there at 4:50 pm.

Nakul Anand, CEO, ITC, believes the impact of the recent terror attack on tourism would not be limited to only Mumbai. He feels both business and leisure travel to India would be affected. "Volumes were down 30-40% across India in the last five days and  50% in Mumbai." He feels lower prices wouldn’t help volumes either.

Udayan Bose, Non Executive Chairman, Thomas Cook India, expects the Mumbai terror attack to severely affect inbound tourism. He does not see much change in outbound tourism. "Corporate travel is already down. I think the tourism industry is headed for a tough 8-9 months." He expects cancellations in Goa

due to the British government advisory. 

  

Cyrus Guzder, Chairman and Managing Director, AFL said the Indian tourism industry is heading for a downturn in tourism. "Travel to Mumbai will be affected. Business travel elsewhere in India will recover, but that to Mumbai will not."

France-based luxury resort company Club Med is planning to enter the Indian market post-2011.

It is considering locations like Puduchery, Goa and the North-East for setting up the property, which is most likely to be a five-trident (star) resort.



This was divulged by Caroline Puechoultres, President and CEO - Asia Pacific, Club Med, at the unveiling of its property 'La Plantation D'Albion' in Mauritius.

It is the first property with three-level classification - superior, deluxe and suites. Club Med also launched its worldwide campaign, 'Where happiness means the world' at the event.
