Nakul Anand, CEO, ITC, believes the impact of the recent terror attack on tourism would not be limited to only Mumbai. He feels both business and leisure travel to India would be affected. "Volumes were down 30-40% across India in the last five days and 50% in Mumbai." He feels lower prices wouldn’t help volumes either.
Udayan Bose, Non Executive Chairman, Thomas Cook India, expects the Mumbai terror attack to severely affect inbound tourism. He does not see much change in outbound tourism. "Corporate travel is already down. I think the tourism industry is headed for a tough 8-9 months." He expects cancellations in Goa due to the British government advisory.
Cyrus Guzder, Chairman and Managing Director, AFL said the Indian tourism industry is heading for a downturn in tourism. "Travel to Mumbai will be affected. Business travel elsewhere in India will recover, but that to Mumbai will not."
