NEWS | Chhatisgarh Tourism proposes MoU with Bihar, UP & AP to promote Buddhist Tourism

In a bid to promote Buddhist Tourism in the state, Chhatisgarh Tourism Board (CTB) has proposed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the tourism boards of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Andhra Pradesh (AP). CTB plans to promote Buddhist Tourism in the current and coming quarters of this year, and its focus destinations will be Sirpur, Champaran, Girodhpuri, Pragyagiri and Shivrinarayan. Santosh K Misra, Managing Director, Chhattisgarh Tourism Board, said, “AP, Bihar and UP are home to famous Buddhist sites like Sarnath,
Bodh Gaya and Nagarjunakonda. CTB wants to jointly promote these destinations with Buddhist destinations in Chhattisgarh, like Sirpur, where The Dalai Lama had visited in March, and Girodhpuri and Pragyagiri, which are Buddhist Tourism destinations.” He added that the agreement with each state would be a bilateral one. CTB also plans to promote Buddhist Tourism in the inbound markets of Thailand, China, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Laos, and Vietnam, since a major chunk of the population in these countries follows Buddhism. Earlier this year, CTB had organised a FAM trip for travel agents and tour operators from these countries for promoting Buddhist destinations in Chhattisgarh.
