The government of New Zealand will build a 24,000-sq metre state-of-the-art convention centre at the South Island city of Christchurch. The centre will be located near the Avon River and will cater to up to 2,000 delegates. The convention centre is a reconstruction project after the conference-cum-exhibition business in Christchurch was hit by the February,
2011 earthquake, according to a report by travelmole.com. The centre will include a performing arts centre, indoor sports centre, shopping precinct and a 35,000-seater sports stadium. All buildings, other than hotels, will be allowed to have only seven floors.
