The Madhya Pradesh (MP) Tourism Department has received a fairly good response from private investors to help develop the state’s tourism. The Department itself will invest Rs 170 crore for creating new tourist facilities and promoting new destinations,
as per a PTI report. "The tourism policy of the MP government provides ample scope for the development of tourism infrastructure through private investment," O V Choudhary, Chief General Manager (Operations and Marketing), MP Tourism Department, was said. "There are also provisions for relaxation in stamp duty, Luxury Tax and Entertainment Tax," he added. Stating that public-private partnership was being encouraged in converting heritage properties into hotels, Choudhary said that the state-owned Govindgarh Palace of Rewa was leased out to private players to be transformed into a hotel, as also were Hotel Rahil in Khajuraho and a wayside amenity in Khalghat. Development of infrastructure for Water Tourism in Indira Sagar will soon be completed, while Water Tourism in Omkareshwar, Sailana Island and Joga Kila is next in line for development. Tourism in MP earned Rs 80.95 crore as total revenue in the previous financial year and plans to touch Rs 100 crore in the current financial year, said Choudhary.
