NEWS | Indian business travellers among top spenders: Accor

Accor in its latest 'Asia Pacific Business Traveller Survey 2012' reported that Indian business travellers are among the top spenders, second to Singaporeans, in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. Indian travellers have one of the highest hotel budgets in APAC, spending an average of USD 399 a trip, the report said. Only the Singaporeans spend more, averaging USD 468 a trip, it added.
The survey interviewed over 2,500 respondents from nine countries in APAC region, who made business trips in the first half of the year. In terms of nightly spend on accommodation, Indians rank third at USD, up from USD last year, while Australians and Singaporeans took the top spots, at USD and USD, respectively, according to the survey. Compared to fellow travellers in the region, Indian business travellers are most likely to be entrepreneurs, with 17 per cent of respondents saying they have their own business. They were also the most likely ones to take business trips to visit customers, with 58 per cent citing it as a reason for travel, it added. However, when it came to women business travellers, India had the lowest rate, constituting a paltry 6 per cent of the total travellers. The APAC regional average of women travellers was 26 per cent, with Thailand at the top spot where women constituted 40 per cent of the travellers, the survey said.
