Thomas Cook (India) Ltd (TCIL), in its third consecutive Holiday Summer Sale is organising a three month long travel road show covering 34 cities across India. This road show was kicked off in Kochi last month and was recently held in Mumbai.

"We are definitely beginning to see a pickup in the market," Madhavan Menon, managing director for Thomas Cook India, told Dow Jones Newswires by phone.

"However, it is too early to say (if the recovery has begun) since the inbound traffic picks up around October while the outbound season starts from November."

Thomas Cook Group Plc (TCG.L), formed by the merger of Thomas Cook AG and MyTravel Group Plc, announced on Monday that it has acquired Elegant Resorts Ltd from its founding shareholders, Geoff Moss and Barbara Catchpole.

The international leisure travel group did not revealed the transaction terms, but said that the acquisition has been funded from existing cash resources.

The U.K-based luxury travel company Elegant Resorts, founded in 1988, offers tailor-made holidays to the most luxurious hotels and resorts around the world, particularly to the exotic destinations of the Caribbean, the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Gulf, as well as European luxury resorts. Last year, Elegant Resorts carried more than 20,000 passengers and the total gross assets of the company were GBP 22.3 million.

Thomas Cook plans to operate Elegant Resorts as a standalone business with the company's current management team in place.

The Peterborough, U.K.-based company believes that the current acquisition will reinforce its position in the independent travel segment and will help it to offer customers high-value luxurious holidays under its Latitude and Thomas Cook Signature brands.

Thomas Cook has strengthen its position in the independent travel sector, as it has agreed to acquire the entire issued share capital of hotels4U.com Limited from Centurion Holiday Group Limited.

The initial consideration, net of amounts to be reinvested by Haim Perry, Managing Director of Hotels4U and Jacky Bedlow, Finance Director, is ￡21.8 million payable in cash from internal resources. The management’s reinvestment is subject to earn out arrangements based on the profitability of Hotels4U up to 2013.

Hotels4U, which sells exclusively via the internet, is the UK’s largest independent bed bank, providing accommodation and resort transfers to over 500,000 customers per year and has access to in excess of 30,000 hotels internationally.

The current Hotels4U senior management team will remain with the business, including Haim Perry who founded the company in 2003.

Three senior directors of Thomas Cook Group, the tour operator created from
the merger of Germany’s Thomas Cook and Britain’s MyTravel, will each
receive a £1.5 million bonus after beating pre-merger synergy targets.

The payouts come as the travel agent said holidaymakers are increasingly
taking advantage of the weak dollar to travel to America.

In recent weeks it has seen a 65 per cent jump in the number of dollar
transactions at its foreign exchange kiosks.
