Girish Shankar, a 1982-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Bihar cadre has taken over as the Additional Secretary in Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. He has replaced Sanjay Kothari. In this role, he will be handling among other administrative responsibilities, works related with Niche Tourism products; public sector undertakings; programme implementation’ Overseas Marketing; Human Resource Development; Hotel & Restaurant Division
Shankar has served Bihar as well as in central cadre in various capacities in the last three decades. He was Principal Secretary Urban Development & Housing, and Panchayati Raj in Bihar before joining the central cadre as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution in the Department of Food & Public Distribution.
