Offering an opportunity for Indian groups visiting Hong Kong and Macau to extend their visit to the Guangdong province on the South China Sea, Guangdong Province Tourist Authority (GPTA) yesterday announced a 144-hour Convenient Group Visa for Indian visitors.
This service can be availed by groups of two to less-than-40 people for six days. Mei Qi Jei, Deputy Chairman, Tourism Administration of Guangdong Province, said that this unique facility will help Indian visitors to Hong Kong and Macau to explore the unparalleled leisure facilities in the Guangdong Province, a tourist destination of 100 million Cantonese people. It was for the first time that Guangdong, Macau and Hong Kong came together to organise a multi-destination road show in India, covering three metro cities - Chennai, Mumbai, and Delhi. Speaking to the media in Delhi, Jei said that the three destinations together are a “quality life circle”, and with the new Convenient Group Visa facility, Indian travellers can explore more places in the region without much hassles. The provincial government has invested a lot on tourism infrastructure in the past. The region received 33.3 million overnight visitors, one-third of the total visitor overnights to China in 2011, he said. Speaking on the occasion, Patrick Kwok, General Manager - Business Development, Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), said that Hong Kong is the perfect gateway and an ideal base for taking excursions to Guangdong and Macau. 70 per cent of Indian visitors to Hong Kong combine their tours with other destinations in the region. That is the reason for combining the effort to organise a multi-destination road show, he said. With the improvement in air capacity in the coming months, especially Air India resuming their Hong Kong operations and Cathay Pacific reinstating their capacities from Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Chennai, the region will once again gain in terms of inbound from India, Kwok said.
