In a bid to leverage on India’s reputation for alternative medical therapies, Delhi-based Bhagwant Travels & Tours plans to promote Medical Tourism packages to India in the Middle East and Eastern European markets. Gurdevinder Singh, Director, Bhagwant Travel & Tours Pvt. Ltd. said, “India has excellent facilities in alternative medicines such as Ayurveda and Unani, which are now being
recognised by the western world. India is very well-connected and medical facilities here are much cheaper as compared to similar facilities in other parts of the world. We also have wonderful tourism attractions to club with medical facilities, which we can then provide to patients while they recover. The government has also made visa-on-arrival facilities available for a number of countries, which helps patients get here for treatments. Therefore, we think that Medical Tourism in India has tremendous potential and this is the right time to aggressively promote it.” Speaking about their plans to attract travellers to India for their Medical Tourism packages, Singh said, “Our main aim is to create awareness about Medical Tourism in India in our targeted source markets. We hope to do this through ad campaigns. We will also look to possibly partner with travel agents and tour operators in the targeted markets. We also participated for the first time in ATM 2012 and the response was very good. We will continue to participate in such travel marts and exhibitions to increase awareness. Recently, the Government of India organised a road show in the Middle East to promote Medical Tourism. We need to have such promotions more often, and also in the European market.”
