NEWS | TCEB plans to tie up with Tourism Ministry, appoint India representative next year

In preparation for the formation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015, the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) is looking to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Ministry of Tourism next year. According to Supawan Teerarat, Director of Exhibition, TCEB, the agreement will be in line with TCEB's
strategic approach under the ‘ASEAN MICE Collaboration', aimed at promoting the MICE Tourism industry in the ASEAN region. Speaking on the sidelines of a press conference in Mumbai titled 'Thailand’s Exhibition Industry: Your Business Platform in ASEAN', Teerarat said that TCEB recently signed a similar MoU with the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In addition, TCEB is planning to appoint an India representative by 2013 to oversee its India operations, informed Proudmanee Sangsri, Senior Manager – Business Development, Exhibition Department, TCEB. Apart from this, the Bureau, which is currently targeting business travellers from the Indian market, recently announced the launch of the ‘100 A-Head’ campaign under its Believe in Thailand banner. The campaign is aimed at MICE travel agents and tour organisers, wherein TCEB will award USD 100 to travel agents who bring in at least 15 trade visitors for a minimum stay of three days and two nights. With the launch of this campaign, TCEB is targeting travel trade associations, business trade associations, chambers of commerce, international travel agents, international non-profit organisations and trade publications. "The Indian MICE segment is an essential market for Thailand. In 2011, India ranked second in terms of overseas visitors for trade shows in Thailand, and in 2012, we are projecting a 10 per cent increase in the number of MICE travellers from India. We are looking forward to partner with the travel trade in Mumbai to enhance our overall efforts for promoting Thailand as a MICE destination," stated Teerarat. He added that Thailand geographically serves as a business platform for the ASEAN market and hosted 85 international trade shows in 2011.
