NEWS | GNTO plans to launch online training programme for Indian travel trade this year

In order to create greater awareness and to equip the Indian travel trade to sell Germany more effectively as a tourism destination, the German National Tourist Office (GNTO) plans to launch an online training programme sometime this year. This information was provided by Romit Theophilus, Director-Marketing and Sales, GNTO India, during the GNTO ‘India Pool’ road show conducted yesterday in Mumbai. Apart from the road show in Chandigarh today, GNTO will conduct its annual ‘India Pool’ road shows in Bengaluru and Ahmedabad in August 2012 and in Delhi and Chennai in October 2012.
Inclusion of Chandigarh and Ahmedabad on the road show itinerary is part of the GNTO’s focus on tapping Tier II cities in India this year. ‘India Pool’ partners Magic Cities Association of Germany, Maritim Hotels, Bayrische Zugspitzbahn Bergbahn AG, Alpha Travel Consultants GmbH, Tourismus + Congress GmbHFrankfurt am Main, Frankfurt and German National Tourist Board, Frankfurt are participating in the Mumbai and Chandigarh road show. First time participant in the ‘India Pool’ road show, Mark Spivey, Director of International Sales, Maritim Hotels, said “This is our first foray into the Indian market and we hope this will help us learn about the Indian traveller, as well as create awareness about Maritim Hotels. We are currently seeing a steady increase in the number of Indian visitors and last year recorded 4,500 Indian guests at our hotels, of which 50 per cent were business travellers, 25 per cent leisure and 25 MICE travellers. This year, we are hoping to receive 6,000 Indian visitors and have India as one of our top three source markets.”
