The Tamil Nadu Department of Tourism has decided to expand its bed and breakfast scheme to two more districts in the state. Under the scheme, domestic and foreign tourists are allowed to stay in the houses of residents in tourist spots. According to a report in The Hindu, the tourism department has invited applications from house-owners in Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts to participate in the scheme. The scheme requires the residences to have tourist infrastructure facilities such as air-conditioned rooms, telephones, clean drinking water, toilets and facilities to provide food to tourists.
On receipt of applications, the tourist officer would inspect their houses and send a report to the Commissioner of Tourism, Chennai. After getting the approval of the Commissioner, the houses of the selected applicants would be publicised in such a way as to benefit both tourists and house-owners.
