In order to give a boost to the tourism sector in the state, the Odisha government, in collaboration with travel trade, is all set to launch ‘Visit Odisha Campaign’ in this month. This campaign will be launched with a set of road shows in the domestic and international markets, as per a Business Standard report. The first road show will organised in Bangkok, Thailand on January 7 followed by the road show in Siam Reap, Cambodia on January 10.
These countries have been selected to tap the tourists keen to visit Buddhist sites in Odisha, informed J K Mohanty, Chairman – Hotel and Restaurant Association of Odisha (HRAO). The travel trade members along with the officials of the Odisha Tourism Department will leave India on January 6 for the road shows in Thailand and Cambodia.
He said that similar road shows will also be held in different countries to project the rich tourism potential, art, craft, and culture of Odisha. Within India, road shows will be held in different cities to attract domestic tourists, he added.
As many as 8.47 million domestic tourists visited the state during 2011-12 compared to 7.77 million tourists during the same period last year.
