NEWS | Justice Dharmadhikari Committee recommendations being implemented: AI to Delhi HC

Air India (AI) yesterday told the Delhi High Court (HC) that it had started implementing the recommendations of Dharmadhikari Committee report to ensure career progression and wage rationalisation of its own pilots and pilots of erstwhile Indian Airlines.
The Committee was constituted in 2007 to look into the aspects arising out of the merger of AI and Indian Airlines, according to an IANS report. The court was hearing an appeal filed by AI challenging a single judge's order that stayed further training of its pilots belonging to Indian Pilots Guild (IPG), a union of aviators from AI, till the implementation of Justice Dharmadhikari panel recommendations. The bench - Acting Chief Justice A K Sikri and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw - disposed of the plea asking both parties, AI and the Indian Commercial Pilots' Association (ICPA) - a union of the pilots of Indian Airlines - to file their written submissions within two weeks before Justice Suresh Kait. Advocate Lalit Bhasin, Counsel for AI, told the court that the AI management had taken a policy decision to train ICPA and IPG pilots on a 1:1 ratio for flying advanced aircraft. "One each from ICPA and the IPG can be trained at a time for flying Boeing 747 and 787 aircraft. However, the pilots of ICPA cannot be trained to fly the Boeing 777 as the training process for this category is over," Bhasin said.
