The tourist season in Goa beginning from October this year is expected to be better owing to depreciation of the Indian rupee against the US dollar, said Fracisco de Braganca, President, Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG), according to a PTI report.
"Europeans find Goa a cheaper destination and naturally they will fly here," he said. The state expects rise in tourists from Russia, countries from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Poland, Scandinavia and Finland, but a drop in the number of travellers from the United Kingdom, whose economy is itself in crisis. The Goa government needs to address several issues of the system to encourage tourism in the state, Braganca said. "There should be consistency in policies of the state government; they change as per the government," he said.
