NEWS | Drukair to launch flights to Mumbai in September 2012

Drukair - Royal Bhutan Airlines will introduce direct flights from Paro to Mumbai in September 2012. The flights will operate twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday and the airline will use a leased A319 aircraft on the route. This information was revealed by Yeshey Wangchuk, Senior Officer-Marketing, Drukair on the sidelines of a road show organised by the Tourism Council of Bhutan in conjunction with Drukair and Indian Hotels Company Limited at Taj Lands End Mumbai yesterday.
Speaking to TravelBiz Monitor Wangchuk said, “The tentative date for the launch of the flights to Mumbai is September 16, 2012. Depending on demand, we are also looking to fly daily to Delhi and Kolkata from mid-September to mid-October 2012. Currently, we are experiencing average passenger load factors of 60-65 per cent on our flights to India.” Alongside Mumbai, the Tourism Council of Bhutan will also conduct road shows in Pune and Ahmedabad. Damcho Rinzin, Media Spokesperson, Tourism Council of Bhutan, said, “Our aim is tap the high-end traveller from the Indian market. India is very important to us and we want high value, low impact visitors to come to Bhutan. We also want to promote Wellness Tourism to Bhutan in the Indian market. Through these road shows, we hope to create awareness about Bhutan as a destination among the Indian travel trade.” Drukair currently flies to Delhi, Kolkata, Bagdogra, Guwahati and Gaya in the India. In 2011, Drukair received 53,223 visitors from India, making it Bhutan's number one source market.
