The number of guests in hotels in Abu Dhabi rose by 14 percent in the first half of 2012, touching 1,189,995 - accounting for 3,369,228 guest nights - an increase of 9 per cent from the same period last year, said the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (Abu Dhabi TCA), according to a report by gulfnews.com. Abu Dhabi TCA stated that the number of Indians staying in these hotels increased by 31 per cent to 65,519.
“This is a very encouraging performance, which leaves us well on track to attain our yearly target of 2.3 million guests,” said Mubarak Al Muhairi, Director General, Abu Dhabi TCA, further stating that he expects Abu Dhabi to host the 18th World Routes Development Forum in September, 2012 so as to bring a significant number of aviation and airline senior personnel to the UAE capital. Moreover, the total revenue of hotels in the first half of the current calendar year was up by 2 per cent to AED 2.3 billion, of which, food and beverage income constitutes AED 921.8 million, up by 11 per cent, said Abu Dhabi TCA. Room revenue, on the contrary, saw a 4 per cent dip to AED 1.15 billion when compared with the previous year. An increase in room inventory led to a 7 per cent fall in the hotel-occupancy rates.
