Chief Minister, Government of Tamil Nadu, was aiming at the investment with an objective to develop the industry and generate employment opportunities, according to a report by The Hindu Business Line. Participating as the chief guest at the valedictory function of the Annual Summer Festival in OOTY, Indira pointed out that efforts are on to promote the East Coast Road and some of the Southern districts at a cost of Rs 500 crore under an Asian Development Bank funded scheme. She said that a consultant has been engaged. Stating that a number of schemes are being implemented with assistance from the Central government, Indira said that steps have been taken to promote Heritage, Eco, Rural and Pilgrimage Tourism at various places, including Thiruthani, Chettinad and Azhagarkoil. Referring to schemes taken up during 2011-2012 in places like Kodaikanal, Ooty and Yelagiri, she said most had been completed and others are nearing completion. Lesser-known destinations are also being promoted.
