According to a report in Business Standard, recent data on domestic vacations for the winter of 2010 released by holidayiq.com, a tourism portal, travellers from Gujarat accounted for a significant seven per cent of the country’s total spend on vacation travel. Overall, Indian travellers took around 500 million trips across India last year. The three large cities Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Surat from Gujarat feature in the top 15 source markets for tourism in India.
According to Hari Nair, Founder & CEO, holidayiq.com, “A traveller from Gujarat spends 50 per cent more than travellers from other states on domestic travel. If the average budget per trip for a traveller nationally is Rs 11,063 for a two day trip, a traveller from Gujarat spends Rs 16,461. The average group size is 5.25 people from Gujarat which is also higher than the national average by about 20 per cent."
