Air France-KLM saw 5% fewer passengers last year

Air France - KLM carried 5.5 million travellers in December last year, 5.1% down on a year earlier, rounding off a year which saw traffic levels drop by the same percentage down to 55.6 billion.

For the month of December revenue passenger kilometres dropped 4.6%, and load factors lifted by 0.8% due to capacity dropping 5.5%.

"While remaining below last year's levels, unit revenues continued their recovery thanks to a more marked improvement in long-haul premium traffic," said Air France-KLM in a statement.

For the full year, Air France-KLM recorded an average passenger load factor of 81.2%, a little higher than the 81.0% recorded in 2008, though capacity had been lowered by4.6%.
Regionally in 2009 RPK dropped across the board with Europe seeing a fall of 5.3%, The Americas with a 4.9% drop, Asia Pacific with a 5.8% drop, and the Caribbean with a 3.6% drop. Only the Africa/Middle East region saw an increase in RPK of 0.6%.
