NEWS| Chandigarh Administration to promote city as Destination Tourism site

The Chandigarh Administration has decided to promote the city as a Destination Tourism site rather than a Transit Tourism spot. The decision was taken at the Tourism Advisory Committee meeting held in Chandigarh under the chairmanship of Ram Niwas, Union Territory, Home Secretary-cum-Secretary Tourism, Chandigarh. At the meeting, Niwas emphasised the need to develop more destinations and upgrade the existing ones (in the city). He stated that the city’s environment itself is a vital feature for promoting Chandigarh as a destination. The Administration has already sent a proposal to the Government of India (GoI) with respect to revamping the Island, Plaza and Regulator end of the Sukhna Lake.

At the meeting, Niwas also spoke about the scarcity of hotel rooms during major events in the city and stated the need to upgrade hotel infrastructure. He further informed that they plan to promote the city as a MICE industry to provide ideal infrastructure for world class conferences.
