Maintaining a double-digit growth, tourist arrivals in the country has increased by 12.7 per cent this year, according to latest figures released by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture here.
However, the growth this year is comparatively less when compared to the 13.6 rise in tourist arrivals in 2006 over the preceding year.
Last year, the number fell short of four million mark with 39,05,596 foreigners visiting India.
By November this year, a total of 44,02,045 tourists have visited the country and the figure is expected to rise by the year-end.
The foreign exchange earnings due to this have also gone up by 25.8 percent this year.
The forex earnings increased from $ 5,746 million last year to $ 7,231 million this year.
