Tourism Ministry sanctions Rs 70 crore for 27 projects

Aiming to develop infrastructure in the states to promote tourism, the Ministry of Tourism has sanctioned Rs 70 crore for 27 projects in the first four months of this financial year.



The Ministry proposes "to continue supporting" creation of world class infrastructure in the country through its assistance to various states and the Union territories, according to an official statement here.

Through assistance to the states, the Centre hopes that the existing tourism products can be further improved and expanded to meet new market requirements.

"This would also enhance the competitiveness of India as a tourist destination," it said.

The ministry has identified several tourist circuits and destinations for integrated development in consultation with the state governments and UTs.

Some of the interesting projects undertaken during the last four months are related to conservation and promotion of heritage destinations at Sanchi, Chettinath and Srirangam.

Ministry has sanctioned projects for development and promotion of eco tourism at Dongargarh, Kodar (Chhattisgarh), Pathiramnal Bio Park (Kerala) and Bungus Valley.
