Air Deccan starts flight to Jamshedpur

Commemorating 100 years of Tata Steel, the world's sixth largest steel producer, Air Deccan brought Jamshedpur back on the country's air map. A coveted birthday present for Tata Steel on its Centenary year.

On Sunday, connecting the steel city with Kolkata, resumption of commercial air service to and from Jamshedpur comes after a gap of over two decades when commercial flights went off air.

A 48-seater ATR aircraft touched down at Jamshedpur marking the introduction of Jamshedpur-Kolkata air service.

"As per data available with us, there is tremendous profit available from Jamshedpur not just for Kolkata but for rest parts of the country. We are expecting that very shortly this airport will be connected with Delhi and other parts of the country," said SPS Bakshi, Executive Director ? Eastern region, AAI.

Tata Steel has promised to gift Jamshedpur a new airport to accommodate bigger planes.
